A scholar of gender and globalization, Ramamurthy has conducted ethnography in the same villages in the Telangana region of southern India for three decades to examine the relationship between social reproduction of families and agricultural transformation. She is Professor of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington and co-editor and co-author of The Modern Girl Around the World : Consumption, Modernity, and Globalization (2008).
