Sasha Abramsky will discuss his new book, The American Way of Poverty: How the Other Half Still Lives (2013), which the New York Times named as one its Notable Books of the Year. Inspired by Michael Harrington's work 50 years earlier bringing poverty to the forefront of American consciousness, Abramsky continues this work looking at the way poverty has changed since Harrington's pathbreaking book. Abramsky is a frequent contributor to The Nation, The Atlantic Monthly, Rolling Stone, Slate, Salon, and the London Guardian among other publications. This event is co-sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center Value of Care Series.
