Andrew Elrod, graduate student in UCSB's History PhD program, has recently published a review article in New Labor Forum. In "Property Supremacy, he reviews Nancy MacLean's Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right's Plan for America (Viking, 2017) with Gordon Lafer's The One Percent Solution: How Corporations Are Remaking America One State at a Time. Both books examine how the wealthiest Americans change policies in their favor, using economics and business to both explain and advocate for disinvestment in the public sector.
